Carol McCarthy is from Downers Grove, IL and is a senior at the University of Iowa majoring in English, Spanish, and minoring in Gender Studies.  She hopes to help introduce an institutional change in the education system by making a Gender Studies and Sex education an official core class taken every year, just like English, Math, Science, History, etc. Her writing interests include fiction and poetry. “Leaving Home” first appeared in Earthwords.
