Hurricane Katrina Had Left the Door Open for the Boys

Wave, Selena Kim

1

He fed us

silver in the

attic again.

All afternoon

our blonde stomachs

dreamt of rain.

Grandpa said

we’d left

the door open.

First the dog ran

in, and then water

filled the house.

We stayed

in the attic,

vomiting silver.

2

Eating

Silver in the

Attic again.

Throughout the afternoon

Blondes stomachs

I dreamed of rain.

Grandpa said

We had left

Open the door.

First, the dog ran

The water then

Filled the house.

We stayed

In the attic

3

Feed me silver.

New penthouse.

Throughout PM.

blonde, stomach,

I dreamed of rain.

Grandpa said

“We had left.

Open the door.”

First, the dog ran

The water then

Full house.

we stayed

In the attic

4

He fed us

Silver

In the attic again.

All afternoon

Our blonde pregnancy

Dreamed of rain.

Grandfather said

“We’ll leave

Open the door.”

The first dog ran

And then in the water

Came the house.

We stayed

In the attic,

Silver vomiting.
